Seems to be a governing oversight issue. Seems to provide a little clarity on why they are not up and running yet. ***Mr Smith’s comments came in response to remarks by minister of state for investments, Khaalis Rolle, who during last week’s House of Assembly debate on the Stem Cell Research Bill said the former Ingraham administration had given final approval to the the $5 million Okyanos Heart Institute without the necessary legislation in place to govern the industry.*** :bash:

d9...we must think alike at times because I decided to check out their web site for fun yesterday to see if anything was happening.

Looks like at least "very near term" the rich, self pay clients wont be halo jumping into the Bahamas for their stem cell treatments...LOL

No hedge, not anytime soon for any stem cell treatment at Okyanos. Nothing but delays, misinformation, and broken promises for the Cytori faithful. You might be too young to remember the Al Capp cartoonist who did Li'l Abner. A character he drew, "Joe Btfsplk" had the proverbial "black cloud" over his head. Just reminds me of this operation in San Diego. :really:

I've spent a lot of time in the Bahamas chasing bonefish. Although I love the place and the people, I can understand how it could be difficult to overcome the colloquial legal battles there. Everyone is related to one another and they are all very skeptical of foreign investment. I can see how Okyanos could have had a green light that was turned to red by someone, or some entity, that was not part of the process and thought that they should be.

If anything the Bahamians should welcome Okyanos. From what I have seen their incidence of heart disease is frightening. Although I know the center is not meant to treat the local population, just having the facility and skilled technical people in the area should seen as a positive step.

In the end I see Okyanos opening their facility. The real question is "will it help the patients"?

***I've spent a lot of time in the Bahamas chasing bonefish.*** Had to chime in, Had some great success 10-12 years ago fishing bones off Cayman Brac. We had an old island local who took us to his favorite spots, caught fish, even treated us to fresh mangos from his backyard. Great fun! As far as Okyanos, all in due time I guess.

Nothing in life- and certainly not in health care- comes easy.

Matt told me -Fall this year and a substantial number of patients already accrued.

Sounds good to me.

Board moderator and Site-owner. I still regret the day I started analysing the prospects of MacroPore (now Cytori) back in 2004- a left-over from the tech-bubble at that time from the century change in my portfolio- and became addicted to Cytori´s fat cell technology.

fas,

For both selfish and humanitarian reasons I hope they are able to help some people with their cells, and machines, and prayers. Not the kind of enterprise where you want to keep your clients waiting. Time is not on their side. Though its precious value is what may help make the project a success.

Another physician appointment, that's two in less than 10 days. Ramping up?

Thanks D9-

Now you know why the number 6 clinic- ATHENA record at clinicaltrials.gov has not been recruiting.

Dr. Miller had other intentions in respect of furthering the application- reviewing the outcomes at patients treated in a registry has the same effect as conducting an additional clinical trial really.

Yes and when they finally do start treating the data will accrue allot faster than a clinical trial. Miller is from Florida and you know that there are many patients in that state that can afford to travel to Bahamas for treatment.
It is really to bad that the powers that be would not allow this clinic to open a year ago...
